The air is thick: the works council is annoyed with the management, the head of department with his new line manager, an employee with the lack of a pay rise. Doors slam, colleagues call in sick, conferences turn into tribunals. Conflicts like these, whether they smoulder coldly or are carried out loudly, cost companies in Germany huge amounts of time, nerves and money…“

The following article describes five conflict scenarios and outlines the chosen approach. Many forks in the road had to be negotiated, each of which would have led in a different direction. There is rarely a silver bullet when it comes to resolving or mediating conflicts.

The article, published on the digital employer portal FAKTOR A, sheds light on such conflict situations and describes what was actually done. The fact that the real-life counselling situation was more complex and time-consuming than described here is only briefly mentioned here.
