Bullying – Distance is the most important thing

18.03.2019

In the sixth part of our conflict podcast, we explore the question of what bullying is and what is the best thing to do.

A time out

Josef Schwickerath has spent a long time researching the topic of bullying and has published several guides on the subject. He believes it is important to take victims seriously. Taking time out from work can often help them to gain distance. Afterwards, they need to ask themselves: What can I do myself?

It is difficult for victims of bullying to understand what they can do themselves. Demanding that the perpetrators or structures change is not very helpful. That rarely works. The crucial question from the perspective of a victim is: What can I do to get out of this situation? - Josef Schwickerath, psychologist

Profession vs. vocation

After a short time, she already knows what her customers are missing, says Margit Ricarda Rolf from the Bullying Centre Hamburg. She has developed a questionnaire to help victims orientate themselves. Are they ill? Do they need to change jobs? Or are they perhaps stuck in the wrong job anyway?

Many people don't have the job they would actually like to have. That's over 40 per cent in my consultancy. Then we take a look: How old is this person? Can they still fulfil their vocation? - Margit Ricarda Rolf

Bullying - what can schools do?

However, bullying is not only an issue in the workplace, but of course also at school. Marek Fink presents itself with its project "Sign against bullying" against it. The business mediator talks to him Sascha Weigel and detektor.fm Presenter Christian Eichler at "Auf die Zwölf".
