In 2002, together with Eberhard Carl, he began to develop and set up the international mediation project and is now the patron of the registered charity organisation „Mediation in International Childhood Conflicts (MiKK e.V.)“. For the implementation of cross-border mediation in conflicts involving parents and children, he was awarded the Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and in 2010 he received the Socrates Prize for Mediation for his many years of work as a mediator and as a "mediator of mediation" in institutional contexts.

The association „Mediation in International Childhood Conflicts“ (MiKK e.V.), based in Berlin, is a non-profit organisation that specialises in mediation in international childhood conflicts. These conflicts typically include cases of cross-border child abduction, contact and custody disputes.

Mediation requires staying power, a lot of staying power!

MiKK e.V. offers:

  1. Counselling and mediationThey advise affected parents and refer them to specially trained mediators who are active in cross-border cases.
  2. Training and further educationMiKK organises training and further education for mediators to strengthen their skills in handling international child conflicts.
  3. NetworkingThe association works with an international network of mediators, experts and institutions to find effective solutions in cross-border cases.
  4. Promotion of the idea of mediationMiKK is committed to promoting mediation as a peaceful method of conflict resolution, especially in cases involving children and international elements.
  5. Research and developmentThe association also participates in research projects and develops methods to improve mediation practice in international child conflicts.

MiKK e.V. has played a significant role in the development and dissemination of mediation procedures in international child conflicts and is recognised for its work at both national and international level.
