During last year's seemingly eternal rail strike, an arbitrator brought about a solution between Deutsche Bahn and the train drivers' union. And in tricky decisions such as Stuttgart 21 or the further expansion of Frankfurt Airport, independent third parties also helped to resolve the situation. Why does it often help in conflicts when a mediator, arbitrator or even a judge intervenes?<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"atw dblue max tgap bgap\">Mediator, judge and arbitrator<\/h3>\n<p>Mediators, arbitrators and judges have very different roles. Judges act on behalf of the people. Conciliators offer solutions and make suggestions.
